I’ve been away! And am still away, but good things are happening, so I hunted down a computer to talk about them.

My manuscript Girl-King was a finalist for the CSU Poetry Center First Book Prize! And my dear friend Rebecca Hazelton was chosen for publication from their Open Competition for her collection Vow. Which means she continues to be a rockstar. Congratulations to her and the other winners!

This is, unfortunately, a bit after the fact, but my poem “Any Ordinary Hell” was featured on Linebreak a few weeks back.

I’m at Bread Loaf, living with Corey Van Landingham (my forever love) — I’m social staff this year. I have learned how to make a gin and tonic. This took a slightly embarrasing amount of time. Also, I sort of know what vermouth is? Someone has made a terrible mistake, and I am a lucky girl.
As for my workshop — I’m with Ross White, my Bull City Press co-conspirator, and Matthew Nienow, and Carl Phillips is running our ship, which is a wonderful ship. This might actually be prying me out of this fiction-writing head space I’ve been in all summer to start sketching out poems again. Missing C. and Milwaukee and the little loud cat. But I needed this – I always do.
Congrats, beautiful! We all knew Girl King was destined for greatness (and it still is).
